Storytelling Festival Returns to Cape Clear

Edan Keenan : September 11, 2013 12:00 am : news

The Cape Clear International Storytelling Festival opened with two of the world's most famous bards hailing Irish folklore as amongst the richest on the planet.

The festival, now in its 19th year, has earned a worldwide reputation for the island 13km off the west Cork coast with American Tim Tingle and Italian Paola Balbi admitting they were honoured to be invited.

“The idea is to tell the story in such a way and in such a place as the stones will speak,” Paola said.

The Italian storyteller, who lives in Rome, said there was now a growing interest amongst people in stories that linkedthem to their place, their culture, their people and their history

Tour of West Cork – Cape Clear Island visited

Edan Keenan : September 11, 2013 12:00 am : news

We then headed to Cape Clear, a small island, for lunch. The island has a population of only 100 and is an Irish-speaking place.

The sail into the small harbour was made in glorious sunshine before a beautiful lunch of the freshest seafood served with some great Irish bread. We took the short tour around the island and saw many of the guillemots, cormorants and storm petrels that make the island a prime birdwatching destination for so many##

New book about Cape Clear Bird Observatory

Jim : May 27, 2012 5:29 pm : news

I thought that this was worth mentioning because of the subject AND the Author, both important to Cape Clear Island.

Steve Wing and his helpers has been collecting, inputting and collating all of the natural history records at the Obs on Cape Clear.

This work is now nearing completion and a new book is on the horizon – Cape Clear Bird Observatory 1959 – 2010.

Steve has asked that people check out his blog at  and partake in his poles that will help determine how many to get printed etc.

Please give Steve and the book all the help you can.
